What is NEFHA?
NEFHA (North East Field Hockey Association) is a non-profit association of Field Hockey clubs based in the New York and Tri-State area.
For over thirty years, the association has provided the opportunity for competitive Field Hockey as well as the development of the sport for both Men and Women.
Currently, NEFHA runs a league competition for Adult Men and Women that runs from September to November and continues from March to June. There are 16 active teams in the two leagues, representing 8 different clubs. The Men’s and Women’s competitions both have 8 teams in their respective leagues with teams playing each other twice during the season. NEFHA provides officials for these games and monitors the results, culminating in the play-off finals for the respective leagues’ Top 4 teams to determine the NEFHA Champions.
NEFHA also runs weekly, coed pick-up hockey on a midweek evening. This gives an opportunity for field hockey in a less competitive setting with all standards welcome. The usual format is mixed pick-up games. There is a small per person charge for facilities rental.
As of September 2014, all league games and pick-up evenings are played at Columbia University’s Baker Field Complex on 218th St and Broadway, which houses a state of the art Water Based AstroTurf 12 field.
Men and women playing in the NEFHA organized league and pick-up are encouraged to become members of US Field Hockey for both Insurance purposes and to support the National Governing Body.
